Kath Mazzella,

Kath Mazzella is a gynaecological cancer survivor. After her surgery she discovered how little women knew and talked about gynaecological conditions, and how many women were suffering in silence. This empowered Kath to go on a journey.  She is a powerful advocate for gynaecological and sexual health, personally inspiring women and arguing for institutional and social change that delivers better awareness, prevention, treatment and support.

Kath Mazzella & GAIN’s work to establish an International GYN Awareness Day (IGAD) is widely supported around the world.  Quote: "It is with much pleasure that the International Council of Women gives support to the creation of a much-needed IGAD 10 September"

Gyn conditions are a worldwide matter, and the (IGAD) should be an International event so that every woman in the world no longer shies way from discussing/addressing gyn matters.

Instead, women’s genitalia and reproductive systems continue to be a source of uncertainty, shame, distress and remain difficult and taboo subjects for many women and teenage girls.  Kath Mazzella has overwhelming professional and community support in her drive to raise awareness of the need for more research and a better understanding of the female genitals, not just by doctors, scientists, researchers, therapists and sexologists, but for all women and men.

Kath is an inspirational public speaker and the founder of the International Gynaecological Awareness Day. She won the Zonta International Woman of Achievement Award for Western Australia in 2005 and was recently awarded the Most Inspiring Woman of the Year by the Momentum Womens Forum
