Virgil. S. Gibson,

Lead Singer for Members of the Original World Famous Platters

Virgil Gibson is best known as the “Golden Voice of Doo Wop” and is regarded as a living legend and national treasure … the story begins just before Virgil's birth, his mother heard Lena Horn sing "Stormy Weather" on the radio and prayed to God that her child would have a 'golden voice'. Virgil believes this prayer was answered. Virgil's stellar career began at age 9, when he appeared with various professional gospel groups in churches in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama.

As a teenager, Virgil admired Tony Williams, the original lead singer of the Platters. Virgil prayed that one day he could sing with his favorite group. Virgil simply states, "I asked God and He just fixed it that I could sing with the Platters".

Virgil recently returned from living and performing throughout Europe. While living in Germany, he served on the U.S.O.'s Advisory Board of Directors, arranging special events for the military and their families. Virgil recently appeared with Grand Ol' Opry legends Ray Price, Bobby Bare, Claude Gray, and Blue Grass Queen, Rhonda Vincent, among others.  Virgil currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee and has recently released "Virgil Sings the Oldies" Vol. I and Vol. II. and his new gospel album, "Prayers Have Wings". Virgil toured the U.S. performing the highly acclaimed "Remember the Magic" Golden Oldies concerts.

Virgil has hosted many benefits for those in need and has donated his time and energy to various charitable organizations. He remains deeply interested in the therapeutics of music and has collaborated on many programs for community agencies, addiction treatment facilities, children's hospitals, nursing homes and correctional facilities.

One of Virgil's greatest joys results from his unique ability to connect with his audience. Before each performance, Virgil asks God to bless him to touch every heart. He hopes that prayer is always answered.
